future public services
Some might think that it are solely private companies working on innovation, pushing us into the future via their new products and services. Some might think that society quitely changes ‘afterwards’, adjusting to these things’ disruptive effects. Initiatives such as those by the UK Design Council’s RED team prove that people part of public life, are taking the lead on innovation as well, pushing the envelope and mapping out the future, more specifically for public services. RED designs future public services with and for the public. They have fascinating views on how design can help transform a situation or ways in which society functions, which are laid out in a paper titled Transformation Design.
Themes they’ve been working on are ageing, democracy, health, energy, citizenship, etc. (presentations)
BTW, Alex Steffen, over at worldchanging.com, wrote a nice entry on RED following an interview he did with them a while ago.
