future T-shirts

billboards from the futureThe Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas of OMA-fame recently got involved in a new project with Italian fashionhouse Prada, this time not for a new flagship store, but for a t-shirt collection called ‘Obvious Classics #1′. Koolhaas designed a set of 27 prints, titled ‘billboards from the future’ (see also here). They feature images related to themes such as climate control, cultural identity, genetics, etc. More than perhaps sketch a future, the t-shirt prints invite people to reflect upon challenges on our radar today, for which a sense of urgency exists, …

Perhaps it would have been interesting to think a bit further along the lines of the notion of a t-shirt as a messaging-medium, a medium to spark dialogue and invite for interaction, and as such to rethink its form/function-relationship.

Koolhaas was previously already invited by Miuccia Prada to consult on the future of the brand.
