book: the world without us

The World without Us Sometimes webstats say something, but what do they mean? Ours show for example that quite a few people seem to be fascinated by the thought-experiment of an earth without man. Science writer and associate professor of journalism at the University of Arizona, Alan Weisman recently published a book titled The World without Us.

“Drawing on the expertise of engineers, atmospheric scientists, art conservators, zoologists, oil refiners, marine biologists, astrophysicists, religious leaders from rabbis to the Dalai Lama, and paleontologists [...] Weisman illustrates what the planet might be like today, if not for us.”

For those among you who like apocalyptic imagery, remains of civilization in the Piranesi-sense, check out some of Kenn Brown’s illustrations for the book in the multimedia section of the accompanying website. The artist seems to have an interest in depicting alternative futures as well.
