Once again scientists, this time members of the Union of Concerned Scientists, expressed their worries about the possible dangers posed by farming crops which are genetically modified to grow medicines or chemical substances. The prospect of large scale, molecular farming aka pharming awakens fears of normal crops and gm crops mixing with unknown consequences feared disastrous.

Solutions proposed include cave pharming, i.e. molecular farming inside controlled, sealed-off artificial environments inside caves (see here).
